About this policy
This policy reflects our special care for children and Mission10forty’s strong focus on protecting children in our projects. This commitment provides a strong framework for how we view and arrange visits to projects run by Mission10forty and our Armenian partner, World Vision Armenia.
A sponsor visit means that a sponsor, or someone acting on the sponsor’s behalf, visits a sponsored child in the child’s home country or local community. Mission10forty regards sponsor visits as a unique opportunity to help both child and sponsor feel valued and connected, strengthen their relationship and improve understanding of how sponsorship contributes to children’s well-being. Sponsors are encouraged to visit the projects we operate in the child’s local community. Mission10forty and our Armenian partner will do everything possible to facilitate the visit. All visits must strictly comply with our Armenia Safeguarding Management Policy and Local Sponsorship Standards.
Sponsor visit guidelines
- All sponsor visits must be approved in advance by our local partner. After receiving a visit request from the sponsor or Mission10forty, local representatives consult the child and the child’s parent or guardian. Together with the local sponsorship and marketing team, they decide whether the visit should take place at the office, at a project or at a neutral location.
- Mission10forty reserves the right to request a clean criminal record before a visit, in accordance with Armenian law. All visits are led by staff from our local partner. Visitors are briefed on the partner’s policy for protecting children and adults and must sign the applicable codes of conduct.
- Visitors are informed about Mission10forty’s and our partner’s Visitation Policy. On arrival, visitors receive a short written or verbal briefing and sign an acknowledgement that they have received the protocols. The signed acknowledgement is retained by our partner’s sponsorship department.
- A sponsor may visit their sponsored child once a year.
- Unannounced visits to sponsored children or projects run by our local partner are not permitted.
- If a sponsor wishes to give money to the child or family during a visit, head or regional office staff should advise the sponsor to donate the funds in accordance with Mission10forty’s or our partner’s sponsor gift list.
Visit expenses
The visitor is subject to all standards and guidelines and is responsible for covering the costs associated with meeting the child. These include transport, meals and accommodation that may be required for the child, the child’s companion and any staff member from our local partner who must attend. These expenses must be paid in local currency (AMD) during the visit.
- Yerevan – Vardenis – Yerevan: AMD 20,000 (approximately DKK 360)
- Approximate lunch cost during a sponsor visit for 4–5 people: AMD 16,000–20,000 (approximately DKK 300–360)
During and after the visit
- All visits are led by staff from our local partner. The visitor must not be left alone with the child. Sponsors may not visit sponsored children unless accompanied by a representative of our local partner or Mission10forty.
- Our local partner provides one day of accompanying services free of charge, excluding travel time. An additional day may be granted at our local partner’s discretion.
- A visitor will never be given a child’s address, or vice versa, and may not make repeat visits without a companion for the child. Sponsors and project staff must be informed that any unaccompanied return visit must immediately be reported to our local partner.
- The local partner’s representative will end the visit if the visitor behaves inappropriately.
- Our local partner will not provide foreign visitors with cash advances in local currency. Exchange of foreign currency or travellers’ cheques may be offered at the national office’s discretion.
- Within seven days of the sponsor visit, the child writes a thank-you note to the sponsor.
